Environmental Details
We know how difficult it can be to tell how much of an impact what you are buying has on the environment, and what effect switching to a more sustainable product has, so we have found out and compiled all of this information for you below.
The Wild & Stone bamboo weaning suction bowl and spoon set replaces baby bowls and spoons that are made from plastic.
The bowl and spoon handle are made from FSC® C007915 certified moso bamboo, a very sustainable and environmentally friendly material. It is very quick growing and requires no pesticides and very little water. The bamboo used for the plate is cultivated for between three and five years, then harvested. It will then regenerate itself, ready for harvest again in a few years. The bamboo is grown by many local farmers in China, not on plantations. Don’t worry about pandas either, although bamboo is their main food source, they eat other types of bamboo, not moso! The suction cup and spoon end are made from BPA free silicone.
Plastic bowls and plates can take hundreds of years to break down, and are difficult to recycle, so often end up in landfill. They can also harbour bacteria, and leach harmful chemicals into your child's food. On the other hand, bamboo bowls and plates are made from completely natural materials, and can be easily composted at the end of their life. Bamboo is naturally antimicrobial, making them resistant to absorbing odours and limiting the growth of bacteria. Bamboo is also highly resistant to stains, waterproof and robust, and with the right care, will last for many years and can be used across multiple siblings.
The bamboo bowl and spoon set is packaged in a recyclable and compostable cardboard box.
With the right care, the bowl and spoon set should last for many years. However, when it is finally time to dispose of it, it can be composted at home, or recycled with wood at your local household recycling centre. The silicone suction cup and spoon end can be recycled with a silicone recycling scheme such as TerraCycle.
