Protecting yourself from the suns harmful rays is very important, but did you know that the majority of sunscreens are really bad for the environment, and not great for your health either? That’s where Sol de Ibiza comes in; it’s made using 100% natural, eco-friendly, skin loving ingredients. The Sunscreen is suitable for all skin types, including those with sensitive skin and children, and is Vegan friendly, cruelty free and not tested on animals. It provides strong protection against UVA, UVB, wind and pollution with an SPF of 50 and is water resistant for 40 minutes.
Most ‘normal’ sunscreens contain lots of nasty chemicals, many of which are harmful to marine life, which means if you go swimming in the ocean, your sunscreen may be seeping these chemicals into the environment and causing damage. Sol de Ibiza doesn’t contain any of these chemicals, therefore it’s marine and reef safe, and won’t cause any damage like coral bleaching. The natural ingredients in Sol de Ibiza are non-toxic and non-nano. You can read more about what makes Sol de Ibiza different to ‘normal’ sunscreens in the Environmental Information tab.
Sol de Ibiza is simple to apply – just allow it to get to room temperature and apply with your finger. Please note, natural mineral filter sunscreens such as Sol de Ibiza work differently to chemical UV filter sunscreens. Sol de Ibiza creates a layer on top of the skin to protect it, whereas chemical UV filters create a chemical UV barrier within the skin. As such, Sol de Ibiza can leave a white cast on your skin when applied, which is the physical barrier sitting on top of your skin. Don’t worry, this will wash off.
Sol de Ibiza donates 1% of all its revenue to the Ibiza Preservation Foundation, a foundation that works to preserve and protect the land and sea in Ibiza and Formentera. The Ibiza Preservation Foundation has a vision for Ibiza and Formentera to be a model of sustainability, where the preservation of the islands exceptional natural beauty and resources contribute to local well-being and prosperity.
We know how difficult it can be to tell how much of an impact what you are buying has on the environment, and what effect switching to a more sustainable product has, so we have found out and compiled all of this information for you below.

Sol de Ibiza Natural Sunscreen is better than ‘normal’ sunscreens on a number of fronts. Most sunscreens contain lots of manmade chemicals, some of which are harmful to the environment and some which are harmful to your skin and your health. The problem is that, whilst these chemicals may be good at protecting you from the sun, not much consideration is given to their wider impact.
Many of the ingredients in conventional sunscreens have been linked to coral bleaching1, a process where stressed corals expel algae that lives inside their tissues. These algae are crucial to the corals health and provide up to 90% of the corals energy. As a result of expelling the algae, the coral turn white, hence why the process is called bleaching. Whilst bleaching doesn’t kill the coral, it does have a dramatic impact on their growth rate, reproductive capacity, susceptibility to disease and ultimately increases their mortality rate. The degraded coral reefs are then less able to support the important ecological infrastructure that depends on them, having a knock-on effect on thousands of ocean species and the wider marine environment.
Many chemicals in conventional sunscreens can also cause irritation for people with sensitive skin. On top of this, most sunscreens are designed to be absorbed by the skin, and subsequently chemicals can be passed into the bloodstream. Some of these chemicals have been linked to health issues such as allergies, hormone imbalances and even cancer2.
The good thing is, Sol de Ibiza Sunscreen doesn’t contain any of these harmful chemicals. It’s made using 100% natural ingredients, all of which are safe for the environment and your health. Plus, it’s packaged in a recyclable aluminium tin, rather than a plastic bottle.
Sol de Ibiza Natural Vegan Sunscreen is contained in a recyclable cardboard tube.
Once opened, Sol de Ibiza has a shelf life of 12 months. If the 12 months is coming to an end and you’re in the middle of a bleak sunless winter, and you haven’t used all of the sunscreen yet, you can use it as a moisturiser to finish it off. Once you are finished with the product, the cardboard tube can be composted or recycled.
As recommended with all sun care products, you should never use them after their shelf life has expired.
