The Biork Potassium Crystal Deodorant Stick replaces deodorants that come packaged with plastic and contain nasty chemicals.

The Deodorant Stick is made from potassium crystal and alum.

Conventional deodorants are regularly packaged in single use plastic, and contain many chemicals that aren't actually good for us, like aluminium chlorides, that can get absorbed into the body. Unlike these conventional deodorants, the Biork Deodorant Stick is made from natural minerals whose molecules are too large to be absorbed by the skin. There are no nasty chemicals, and the deodorant is suitable for even the most sensitive of skin. It's also packaged in a sustainably sourced and compostable cork sleeve. Cork trees are vital in the reduction of CO2 in our atmosphere, absorbing up to 30% more than other trees. The bark of a cork tree is harvested around every nine years, with no harm to the tree. The bark then grows back, absorbing even more CO2 in the process.

The Deodorant Stick can last for over a year with normal daily use. Once the crystal is too small to be practical, it can be converted into a spray deodorant. Place the remaining crystal in cold water (in a ratio of 50g to 100ml) for 14 days until it has completely dissolved. Then pour this solution into an empty spray bottle to use as a spray deodorant (make sure the bottle is completely clean beforehand, and has only been used for toiletries in the past - you don't want to be spraying anything nasty onto your skin!). The cork container can be easily composted. Or even better, why not upcycle it? We've seen the empty containers used as spice containers, small pencil pots, plant pots and storage containers. They're a great replacement for the plastic camera film cartridges we all used as storage pots before the millennium!
