The reusable Menstrual Cup from OrganiCup is a great eco-friendly alternative to disposable menstrual products such as pads and tampons. Made from FDA approved, medical grade, chemical free silicone, the OrganiCup contains no allergens, BPA or latex and is AllergyCertified, so you can rest assured that it’s perfectly safe to wear inside the body. When you’re not using the Menstrual Cup, it can be stored in the included storage pouch made from organic, unbleached cotton.
The Menstrual Cup works by creating a seal between the cup and vagina wall, capturing your period in the cup. The Cup holds up to three tampons worth and can be worn for up to 12 hours. The soft silicone of the Cup is flexible, so once it’s positioned correctly you won’t feel a thing, perfect for even the most active of lifestyles. You can swim, run, do yoga and scuba dive without a worry!
If you’re new to the idea of a Menstrual Cup, we know that it can seem a little daunting at first. However, we assure you that there’s nothing to fear. It might take a few days or periods to become comfortable with the Cup, but it’s all worth it. Here’s our top tips for first time Menstrual Cup users:
- Until you feel 100% comfortable with your Menstrual Cup, it’s perfectly okay to wear a pantyliner so you don’t have to worry about leaking.
- The Cup should be placed below the cervix, otherwise it will most likely leak. We all have differently positioned cervixes, so try to locate yours with your finger. You should feel for a slightly firmer area of tissue and position your cup under it.
- If you can feel the stem and find it uncomfortable after using the cup a couple of times, you can cut it shorter. Don’t cut it whilst the Cup is inserted though, and cut off a little bit at a time to make sure that you don’t cut it too short.
- No one expects you to be an instant Menstrual Cup pro, so we recommend you practice inserting and removing your Cup before you get your period so that you can find the best technique and get a feel for what works for you.
- To make insertion easier, you can use water or a water based lubricant.

The OrganiCup Menstrual Cup replaces single use menstrual products such as tampons and pads.
The Menstrual Cup is made from 100% medical grade silicone that is both FDA approved and AllergyCertified. It is 100% BPA and latex free. Medical-grade silicone contains silicon, oxygen, carbon and hydrogen atoms. It doesn’t contain any known unnecessary or hazardous chemicals. Silicon is made from quartz, which is found in sand and is the one of the most common minerals on Earth. The storage pouch is made from organic, unbleached cotton.
The vast majority of tampons contain plastic - whether that's in the applicator, packaging or even in the string. Women in the UK use an average of 11,000 disposable menstrual products during their lifetime, costing them on average £5000! It has been estimated that disposable menstrual products contribute to over 200,000 tonnes of waste per year. Switching to a Menstrual Cup helps to massively cut down on disposable period products. With the right care, a Menstrual Cup will last you up to 10 years, saving you a huge amount of money and eliminating a huge amount of waste in the process.
The OrganiCup is packaged in a recyclable card box. The instructions for the Cup are printed on the inside of the box to prevent additional waste.

In many cities in Europe, if you bin your old cup, it's burned along with other waste and energy is created from the heat. So you can ask at your local recycling facility, as they will most likely know what to do with medical grade silicone - perhaps they might even able to take it in themselves. If you don't want to throw your cup in the bin, a way of disposing your menstrual cup is to burn it. You can do so worry-free because silicone is basically sand (quartz). It will only produce a tiny bit of CO2 due to the small quantity of silicone used for the cup.
