Plastic free washing up brush, made from coconut fibres held together with a metal loop.
The Washing Up Brush from Loofco provides a natural, plastic free solution for cleaning your dishes, glasses and pots. Handmade in Sri Lanka from coconut fibre, it is 100% compostable and recyclable, Vegan friendly and non-toxic.
The Washing Up Brush from Loofco provides a great natural alternative to plastic washing up brushes. Made from coir coconut fibre, it is 100% plastic free, meaning that you can clean your dishes safe in the knowledge that there are no microplastics being washed down the drain.
The Washing Up Brush fits neatly into the hand and is strong enough for scrubbing pans and small enough to reach into cups. The Brush measures 10cmx 7cm and features a handy metal hanging hook, which is galvanised so will not rust. It is very durable and will last for months before wearing out, after which it can be composted and recycled.
How to use
Rinse the Brush thoroughly before first use. Immerse and use in warm water with washing up liquid (or better still, a washing up soap bar!). To keep the Brush fresh between uses, rinse and squeeze out excess water and shake out any food particles. Hang to dry from the metal loop. Occasionally soak the Brush in hot soapy water and air dry to freshen it.
We know how difficult it can be to tell how much of an impact what you are buying has on the environment, and what effect switching to a more sustainable product has, so we have found out and compiled all of this information for you below.
The Loofco Washing Up Brush replaces plastic based washing up brushes.
The Loofco Washing Up Brush is made from coir coconut fibre, a byproduct of coconut food and oil production which might otherwise be burnt. The coir is held together with a galvanised steel loop.
Most shop bought washing up brushes are made from plastic, which when used release micro plastics that end up going down the drain, eventually polluting the ocean. Not only that, plastic washing up brushes cannot be recycled so end up in landfill, where they sit for hundreds (if not thousands) of years.
The Loofco Washing Up Brush is made from coconut fibres and is 100% plastic free, so won’t release any microplastics when it is used. The Brush is very hardwearing and should last for months. Once it is finally time to replace the Brush, the bristles can be composted at home and the steel can be recycled, so it is totally zero-waste.
The Washing Up Brush is packaged in an FSC responsibly sourced card sleeve, printed with vegetable based inks and sealed with a compostable cellulose sticker.
When it is time to replace your Loofco Washing Up Brush, simply separate the bristles from the metal loop. The bristles can then be composted at home in your compost bin or placed in with your food waste collection if your local authority offers this type of service. The metal loop can be recycled with your normal household recycling.
