The Root Vegetable Scrubber from Loofco provides a great natural alternative to vegetable scrubbing brushes. Made from a plant called a loofah, it is 100% plastic free, meaning that you can clean your vegetables safe in the knowledge that there are no microplastics being washed down the drain. The Root Vegetable Scrubber fits neatly into the hand, and when immersed in water it swells up to become a soft, spongy and flexible pad that won’t splash water around the sink whilst you clean your vegetables. It also features a handy hanging string which is made from natural, compostable Egyptian Cotton. The durable scrubber will last for months and when it is worn out it can be composted at home.
How to use
Rinse thoroughly before first use. Use with water on the wet skin of root vegetables with gentle pressure to lift off soil and debris. To keep the loofah fresh between uses, rinse well, squeeze out excess water and hang to dry from the cotton string loop. Occasionally wash in the washing machine or by hand if desired.

The Loofco Root Vegetable Scrubber is made from the Loofah Plant, with an Egyptian Cotton hanging string. The Loofah Plant is a vigorously growing vine from the cucumber family that is rich in durable fibres yet soft and flexible. When ripe, the inside of the loofah fruit develops a network of fibres that are perfect for cleaning and exfoliating purposes when dried. The loofahs are harvested, peeled and deseeded, then dried, cut into lengths and processed by hand in Egypt. This is a traditional method that has been passed down through generations.
Most shop bought vegetable scrubbers are made from plastic, which when used release micro plastics that end up going down the drain, eventually polluting the ocean. Not only that, plastic scrubbers cannot be recycled so end up in landfill, where they sit for hundreds (if not thousands) of years. The Loofco Root Vegetable Scrubber is made from the loofah plant and is therefore 100% natural and compostable. Being totally plastic free, it won’t release any microplastics when it is used. The scrubber is very hardwearing and should last for months. Once it is finally time to replace the scrubber, it can be composted at home, so is totally zero-waste.
The Root Vegetable Scrubber arrives flattened to save up space and is packaged in an FSC responsibly sourced card sleeve, printed with vegetable based inks and sealed with a compostable cellulose sticker.
When it is time to replace your Loofco Root Vegetable Scrubber, it can be composted at home in your compost bin or placed in with your food waste collection if your local authority offers this type of service.
